Goblet of Fire Fan Reviews

By Helene

I wonder if Mike Newell has ever played baseball. I say that because, in my opinion, he's hit this ball right out of the park. I'm not a Hugh Grant fan, and never saw "Three Weddings and a Funeral", so didn't know what to expect, but I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised in a GOOD way by what I saw last Friday night at Midnight---Not only is GOF undoubtedly the best movie in the franchise, but the closest to the way I imagined the scenes as I read the book.

I won't belabor details, as you all know what happens, and I don't want to walk the fine line of Spoilers, but I will say, most likely, your favorite scene in the book will be your favorite scene in the movie, particularly the Yule Ball, which I think is cooked to PERFECTION!! The chemistry and erotic tension between Ron and Hermione is visible from the very first scene of the film, and quickly builds from there--by the time of the Yule Ball, what happens between them is true teenage angst, with a healthy dose of longing, infatuation, confusion and knowing--it's truly magical! The Harry/Cho thing is subtle, yet most definitely on the radar, and one can only speculate how that first kiss will be handled in OOTP.

The tasks are spectacularly filmed, and again, are exactly how I pictured them in my mind's eye. It's obvious Newell (and Kloves), have great respect and admiration for these books, and treated the material as such.

Ralph Fiennes chews the scenery as you-know-who, and rightly so. An Oscar-Nominated actor, he knows exactly what the audience wants, and worked amazingly well with Newell to give it to them. Radcliffe holds his own nicely against such an experienced performer, and the show-down, as it were, again: exactly how I saw it happening as I read.

All in all, a wonderful film, that will stand the test of time among fans around the world, young and old.
